An Italian academy that once counted astronomer Galileo Galilei as a member has recognized a Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center scientist for her contributions to plant science.

Federica Brandizzi, a professor of plant biology at Michigan State University and GLBRC science director, was awarded the Professor Luigi Tartufari Prize by the Accademia Nazionale Dei Lincei in November.

Established in 1603, the academy acts as the scientific advisor to Italy's president and awards, recognized Brandizzi for career-spanning innovation and impact on plant biology, especially her research on ways plants respond to environmental stresses.
