Data Set Guidelines

To have your GLBRC data set highlighted, please deposit your data in an online repository that follows the FAIR Guiding Principles. Examples of acceptable data repositories can be found below. If you have any questions, please email Donna Bates (donna.bates@wisc.edu).

If the repository you have used is not listed, please follow the decision tree to determine if your data set is eligible for a highlight.

Decision tree

  1. Is the data set associated with a publication?
    • NO: Go to Step 2
    • YES: Go to Step 3
  2. Will there be a publication coming out that the data set will be used for?
    • NO: Check the database on the case-to-case basis. If it meets FAIR guiding principles, it might be included on GLBRC.org.
    • YES: Wait until the publication is out and follow the decision tree.
  3. Is the data set separate from the publication (i.e., it is not part of the supplementary materials)?
    • NO: The data set should not be included on GLBRC.org because it can be found in the publication.
    • YES: Go to step 4
  4. Is the host site where the data set is deposited a long-term data repository?
    • NO: The data set should not be included on GLBRC.org because it does not meet FAIR guiding principles.
    • YES: Go to step 5
  5. Is the data set accessible to anyone for free?
    • NO: The data set should not be included on GLBRC.org because it does not meet FAIR guiding principles.
    • YES: Go to step 6
  6. Does the data set contain associated metadata that identifies the data and describes the data set?
    • NO: The data set should not be included on GLBRC.org because it does not meet FAIR guiding principles.
    • YES: Go to step 7
  7. Does the data set have DOI or other identified number associated with it?
    • NO: Check the database on the case-to-case basis. If it meets FAIR guiding principles, it might be included on GLBRC.org.
    • YES: The data set should be included on GLBRC.org.
