Each year at the GLBRC Annual Science Meeting, we celebrate the outstanding contributions of our researchers, students, and staff through a series of awards. These honors recognize excellence in scientific achievement, collaboration, mentorship, and service. Explore the links below to learn more about each award and see past recipients.
Jennifer L. Reed Bioenergy Science Award
The Jennifer L. Reed Bioenergy Science Award is given annually to an early career woman who has made significant contributions to the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center research portfolio.
Yaoping Zhang Bioenergy Research Award
Established in 2024, the Yaoping Zhang Bioenergy Research Award is given annually to recognize members of the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center community who have made important research contributions through high-impact, peer-reviewed publications that advance the center’s scientific mission to develop sustainable lignocellulosic biofuels and products.
Service and Impact Award
Established in 2025, the GLBRC Service and Impact Award recognizes GLBRC members who have demonstrated leadership or participation in community building opportunities.
Industry and Entrepreneurship Award
Established in 2025, the GLBRC Industry & Entrepreneurship Award recognizes members who have demonstrated entrepreneurial excellence or fostered collaboration with industry partners to support the center’s mission to create biofuels and bioproducts that are economically viable and environmentally sustainable.
Mentorship Award
Established in 2024, the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center Mentorship Award honors members who prioritize the spirit of mentorship and who strive to promote the success and development of those around them.
Outreach and Education Award
The Outreach and Education Award is given annually to members of the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) who have made significant contributions to the Center’s outreach and education mission. The award recognizes GLBRC members who have demonstrated a spirit of generosity in sharing science with the public. Such efforts may include participating in or coordinating outreach programming, dedicating time in support of service activities, or sharing expertise with public audiences during their time in the GLBRC.
