Postdoctoral Synthetic Organic Chemist

Organization
Position Type
Postdoc

Requirements: An experienced postdoctoral synthetic organic chemist needed in our program of creating valuable commodity chemicals from lignin in Biomass. The candidate will be expected to develop syntheses for and synthesize lignin model compounds, evaluate degradative (hydrogenolysis, oxidation, electrochemical) reactions of models and lignins, determine product structure (including from the lignin polymer), etc. Candidates with prior experience in lignin chemistry, or in the synthesis of phenolics, are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have co-authored peer reviewed publications in reputable international journals, and will be familiar with synthetic organic chemistry methods, compound separation and purification methods, HPLC(-MS) and GC(-MS), reaction chemistry, and instrumental structural analysis methods including NMR and mass spectrometry. Note: given the imminent starting date, applicants who are US citizens or have US work visas will be given priority.

Job Duties: The chemist will perform syntheses to prepare lignin dimeric structures, conduct hydrogenolysis and possibly oxidation reactions, and determine products and mechanisms.

Begin Date: September 1, 2018
Percent Time: 100%
Salary: Minimum $48,432, Dependent on experience
