Hanny Rivera

Hanny Rivera is the director for business partnerships at Ginkgo Bioworks, where she seeks new ways to use synthetic biology for energy and sustainability applications. She has over 10 years of experience driving collaborations with academia, industry, philanthropy, and government to generate high-impact research from early-stage R&D to commercialization. Rivera did her postdoctoral research at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and Boston University before becoming an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office. She holds a Ph.D. in biological oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology studied genetic and physiological responses of corals under warming temperatures.
