University of Wisconsin–Madison

David Rothamer is the Robert Lorenz Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department in the College of Engineering. He is the director of the Engine Research Center and a principal investigator in the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center. His research focuses on problems involving fluid mechanics, chemical kinetics, and combustion in internal combustion engines. Rothamer’s work includes: the design of alternative fuels, and how changes in fuel chemistry and properties impact IC engine performance and emissions; understanding the fundamental mechanisms of soot formation and filtration; and designing and applying advanced laser-based imaging diagnostics to make measurements of key quantities in combustion environments.
