High Throughput BioDesign Facility Leader

Summary

The Facility Leader will establish and lead a new High Throughput (HT) BioDesign Facility located in the Wisconsin Energy Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This facility will provide cutting-edge liquid handing, robotic, metabolomic and other automated services that enable GLBRC Scientists to explore genomic and metabolomic approaches that enable the sustainable production valuable biofuels and bioproducts by microbes.

Responsibilities

  • 25% Collects and analyzes complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • 5% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, authors or co-authors publications, and disseminates information to appropriate entities through various communication mediums
  • 10% Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
  • 20% Develops and implements complex research projects, methodologies, procedures, and criteria
  • 10% Reviews and evaluates results
  • 5% Assists with writing and submitting grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • 10% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and student workers
  • 5% Meet the needs of GLBRC scientists for detection and quantification of metabolites with customer engagement, troubleshooting, website development and instrument maintenance
  • 10% Collaborate with GLBRC scientists to develop and execute high throughput adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE) experiments, CRISPR/Cas library screens, oversee and maintain equipment and scientific instruments

Education

Required - Master's Degree, with 2-4 years of post-degree lab experience in molecular biology, microbiology, bioengineering, genetics, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.

Preferred - PhD in molecular biology, microbiology, bioengineering, genetics, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
