Applications are invited for a Research Associate (postdoc) position with Dr. Eric Hegg. The person chosen will be part of the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center at Michigan State University. The GLBRC is one of four national Bioenergy Research Centers funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. The successful candidate will join a diverse and highly collaborative research team and will enjoy the benefits of working in a multi-institution research center. 

The project will focus on the characterizing and improving the performance of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs). The candidate should have a background in chemistry or biochemistry and experience working with enzymes. 

The primary duties of this position will include establishing key performance parameters of natural and engineered enzyme variants to understand their performance across relevant biofuel feedstocks, pretreatment strategies, and conversion conditions. 

Qualifications for this position are:

• PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field

• Strong self-motivation

• Experience in enzyme expression, purification, and characterization (required) and enzyme kinetics and spectroscopy (desired).

• Demonstrated ability to conduct and perform collaborative research and effectively interact with a broad range of colleagues

• Demonstrated independence and ability to perform creative, high-quality research

• Ability to organize and present reports to collaborators and sponsors

• Experience and skill in preparing research publications

The starting salary for this position is expected to be $47,500, but it can be negotiable for individuals with exceptional experience.

The position is renewable annually, contingent on funding and job performance. A start date by February 1, 2018 is preferred, but alternative timelines will be considered and should be noted in the cover letter.
